Obtaining A Peaceful Mind

Obtaining A Peaceful Mind

A peaceful mind is free from anxiety.
A person's anxiety will weighs him down, but an encouraging word makes him joyful (Proverbs 12:25-GWT).
Anxiety causes heavy burdens (sadness that is difficult to overcome) which leads to stress. A burden is worrying about a responsibility, carrying something heavy or pressure (See Pro. 12:25 above).

Anxiety is often a sign of impatience.  Impatience is not the inability or unwillingness to wait.  It is an eager desire for relief or change; restlessness, intolerance or irritability of anything that lingers or takes longer than expected. Patience is the tolerance of delay without complaining but endurance.
If what we hope for is still unseen by us, we should wait for it with patience and composure (Romans 8:25-AMP).
The combination of patience and gentle words together can convince or persuade a person in authority to act in your favor and cause someone (yourself included) to overcome any problem (see Proverbs 25:15-CEV).

Give your anxieties to God permanently. Turn all your anxiety over to God because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7- GWT). In other translations the bible says to cast your care or anxieties on Him. To cast in this since means to remove something from the mind.

Anxiety begins with your thoughts. Encouraging words cure anxiety (see Pro. 12:25).
Read these encouraging scriptures and remember them when you are feeling discouraged:

    • The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18-NASB).
    • I am the LORD God of all humanity. Nothing is too hard for me (Jer. 32:27-GWT).
    • "What I'm trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don't be afraid of missing out. You're my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself (Luke 12:29-31-The Message Bible).
    • No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it (1 Cor. 10:13-The Message Bible).
    • I've commanded you to be strong and brave. Don't ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the LORD your God and I will be there to help you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9-CEV).

A peaceful mind is free from negative and doubtful thoughts.
For as he thinks within himself, so he is (Pro. 23:7-NASB).  Your thoughts control your emotions, the words you say and what you do.

Negative and doubtful thoughts cause hasty actions and words. Job 20:2 in two different versions shows how Job’s thoughts caused anger, hasty words and actions in response to his own thoughts.

    • (GWT)-My disturbing thoughts make me answer, and because of them I am upset
    • (ERV)-Therefore do my thoughts give answer to me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.

Reflect:  Have you ever drawn a conclusion about someone based on what you thought and believed to be true before you have asked the other person their intent? Have you ever asked the question Now, why did he do that, answered your own question without asking the other person the reason behind their action and reacted based on your own conclusion? Were you embarrassed when you found out you were wrong? You have experienced the behavior Job was confessing to.

Prevent speaking words out of haste and or anger. Proverbs 18:21 (The Message) reads, œwords kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit you choose. Your words expose what is in your heart (see Matthew 12:34). I like to use a powerful quote I recently heard in a podcast by Scott Smith (The Daily Boost-Motivationtomove.com), Everything in your life, everything you have comes to you because you've asked for it. All the stress you have in your world is here because you have brought it into your world and allowed it to be there.  You have allowed your emotions to dictate the way you feel."  I believe that God answers all of our prayers and allows the words we say and to manifest to prove to us that they have power. Our thoughts control our attitude and response to everything. If we react positively and think that we do have hope in accomplishing something, then patience and faith will cause things to work for us not against us.

The peace of God will guard your thoughts and emotions.  God's peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus Phil. 4:7 (GWT).
God’s peace is like walking through a fire storm without getting burned. God’s peace is fire proof. It will keep your mind surrounded in it preventing anxiety and negativity from causing a burnout or stress.

God’s peace is accessible through Christ Jesus (His way, His peace).
What is God’s way of experiencing peace?

    • Patience, faith, speaking hope and the word of God, trust, positive thoughts, gentleness, staying encouraged and prayer. Allow these things to keep you in peace and be your guard against anxiety.
